Our mission

English Literature is an art.Getting good at it is a science.

Wizardry teaches students how literary analysis and essay writing actually work: clear theory, deliberate practice and precise feedback, in specialised courses for NCEA, Cambridge International and IB. It strengthens classroom teaching. It never replaces it.

Why Wizardry exists

Many capable, hard-working students find English confusing. It is rarely clear what to learn, how to practise, or why one essay succeeds where another does not. Confusion breeds dread, and dread pushes students away from a subject worth loving.

Wizardry exists to remove that obscurity. The skills behind strong literary analysis and essay writing can be explained, practised and systematically mastered through clear theory, deliberate practice, guided application and precise feedback. Interpretation stays open. The path to forming interpretations becomes visible.

The problem is structural, not personal

In mathematics and science, theory comes first. Textbooks set out exactly what must be understood, students practise it, and application follows. The curriculum is direct, linear and visible.

English commonly reverses that order. Students are handed a complex text and asked to produce analysis before the processes of analysis have been made explicit. The transferable reasoning sits scattered across individual lessons instead of being taught as a coherent, progressive body of theory. This pattern repeats across schools, curricula and countries. It is not the fault of individual teachers, who work within tight timetables and prescribed texts.

Wizardry supplies the missing strand: the theory of how analysis and writing work, taught in the right order.
